Lunch with LDS
Two Elders from the Mormon church were walking through our neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. I was on the roof spraying our hornet’s nest.
They asked me if they could help.
I said sure, come on up and start spraying yellow jackets.
They wanted to tell me about Jesus Christ and how he’s changed their life.
So today, I’m buying their lunch to chat with them. I might report it back here, I might not. In Kansas, I had multiple meetings with two elders until their supervisor told them they could no longer come to my house. I was asking too many questions. Very polite and pleasant people.
So if you think about it – pray for us.

I’m interested in knowing what kind of questions you ask. You see, there is a Mormon church here in town also. Have not ran into any yet though.
I’d also like to know what kind of questions you ask. I always have stuff in my head about what I’ll say or ask the next time they come knocking and every time I end up all flustered, totally forget what I had planned to say, and basically tell them they are deceived Morons and run them off.
And honestly, that’s NOT what I want to do, it just sort of spouts out of my inner moron…
I wish i cared enough anymore to ask questions. But for what it’s worth I’ d’ be interested in updates. Do they know what your “job” is? Are you riding your bike to lunch with them?
Funny Wayne…that was a good one.
Grant – great approach! That is why you are my hero. Some would look at these men as being spiritual yellow-jackets – you correctly saw them through the right lens. Prayers are with you!
Here in Utah we have a just a few LDS folk
.
Seriously though, I’m amazed how many of them are very interested in talking with me…knowing that I am a pastor. As the population of this state becomes more cosmopolitan, more Mormons are thinking twice about what they’ve been taught.
The saddest part is how many of the typical lay mormons really are bored to tears in their churches. Stale liturgy, demanding expectations, etc. This is a great time to be in the Beehive state!
Grant – don’t run across Mormons much in the Bible Belt, especially in LA. That’s a great approach. Thanks for sharing. Would love to hear how it goes. I will be praying for you and for them.
Soooo….how was the bike ride to lunch?
It is so cool when the mission field comes to you in the form of “missionaries!” Hope it goes well.
[...] So I guess I need to report on my lunch with my two new LDS friends. I first met them on my roof. [...]
