The appropriate paranoid response is to never give your true name. So far I have been able to live by this. Even Cathy, my wife, doesn’t know my true name. The only problem is I forgot it also, so I just go by Paul now.

i approach it this way…
if i know the person’s name — but — they don’t publicize their name on their own site, then i call them by their webname – i figure there’s a reason they don’t make their name public.

But – if their name is stated on their profile/about page, then i may call them by their real name cuz i figure it’s not a secret.

i think i called you by your ‘real’ name on my comments yesterday, so i guess i better make sure it’s listed somewhere on your site or else i’m lying here. (if so, i apologize, but i think you made it public on your previous skin/style, so i got in the habit of thinking you’re not trying to stay covert.

I think “webname.” If people really want to know the person’s real name, they can follow the link to that person’s blog/website and find out for themselves.
But that’s just me.
That said, it doesn’t bother me either way, so you’re still in the clear.
