Monday Blues
Why in the world are Monday’s so depressing? The only pastor I’ve ever worked with that had a great solution to this was Al Areheart of 12th Avenue Baptist Church. He wouldn’t let any one take Monday off.
“If you are going to feel that bad and be that down, you might as well work. Don’t waste a day off like that!”
Great advice, don’t you think? I took it. To get out of the funk, I started writing and reading…a lot. It’s now part of my routine. Monday, get up and start reading and writing. All morning long. Break for lunch. Go back at it, tackle some emails and return phone calls.
What it did was set the stage for me to minister out of the overflow. It set me up to establish a habit of feeding myself not just for the purpose of teaching others, but for me to have my own holy moments with Dad. So what started out as folksy advice from a good pastor ended up becoming a lifelong discipline that’s helping me be better. (Notice, I said better – not good. So keep your comments nice!! ha ha.)

I am glad you write on Monday, that gives me something to read
I had one pastor who’s theory was, “Why should my family have my worst day after being at church all day on Sunday? Let the church have me on my slowest day, they are why I’m so tired on Mondays”.
