Crash and Not-so-closet Racism

Watched the movie Crash last night, with Don Cheadle – who I think is the best actor you’ve never heard of.

It’s rated R for a reason – language, violence, brief nudity – but the themes it deals with and the twists in the story are incredible. If they had removed the brief nudity and softened the language a bit, I would have made it required watching for students.

It exposes racism by everyone and just when you think you’ve found a character that’s pure and will lead you out of it…a twist.

All have fallen short…

I haven’t seen this… only heard of it in passing. I’ll have to check this out soon. And Don Cheadle is great. I’ve always liked him, but he was oustanding in Hotel Rwanda, which is now one of my favorite movies – another movie everyone should see, by the way. I also read a book about the Rwandan genocide before watching the movie that was very good as well. Okay, now I’m rambling, so I’ll stop….

well…hotel rwanda is on my list for next week – so we’ll swap reviews.

Crash is pretty intense. It’s reality….and reality is rough. be forewarned!

been reading your blog and all I got to say is this…

good luck with that… maybe they’ll break into the top 25 before the season’s over :) Duke’s still #1, after beating Seton Hall by 53 last night…

Hey, what happened against LSU?? And please tell me AL will beat Auburn this week.

Crash was a pretty interesting movie, but I did think that Hotel Rwanda was better.

Don Cheadle is absolutely great. I saw his performance in Rwanda and it was fantastic.I think this is a good movie, although the theme will definitely make some noise. Without any biases, this should be a hit.

  7. [...] For the first time in my adult life, I didn’t watch the Academy Awards last night. I really didn’t care – truth be told. I told Amy – the film that should win best picture, best director, and best screenplay isn’t – Crash. I posted on this film back in November of last year. I think it’s a must see for youth workers – especially those in racially divided areas. [...]
